Sherman Oaks is located in the San Fernando Valley region of Los Angeles.
This upscale and highly sought after neighborhood is bounded by Studio City (east), Van Nuys (north), Encino (west) and Bel Air (south). A portion of Sherman Oaks includes the Santa Monica Mountains, which gives it a lower population density than some of the other surrounding cities. The area was founded in 1927 and named for General Moses Hazeltine Sherman, a partner of the Los Angeles Suburban Homes Company.
Sherman Oaks, in addition to many other nearby areas, enjoys one of the valley’s main arteries: Ventura Boulevard. There’s a vast array of eateries, from the Añejo Cantina & Grill, Midici’s build-your-own Neapolitan pizza, Boneyard Bistro to Iroha Sushi of Tokyo.
For the avid shopper, there’s the Sherman Oaks Galleria, jam packed with retail stores, movie theaters, restaurants and services. A portion of Ventura Boulevard features stores owned by Lisa Rinna (Belle Gray) and Tori Spelling (InvenTori), fast becoming known as “celebrity row!” Not far from “the boulevard” you can find Westfield Fashion Square, anchored by Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s, with tons of great retailers and a fabulous food court in between!
The Van Nuys Sherman Oaks Park features lighted baseball diamonds, indoor gymnasium, picnic tables, children’s play area and so much more, to keep a family active. There’s also a senior center with two kitchens, community/meeting rooms and an outdoor heated swimming pool. Sherman Oaks Castle Park is another ideal place for family fun, with miniature golf, batting cages and arcade games!
When it’s time to get the kids ready for school, one of the best in Sherman Oaks is Dixie Canyon Community Charter School (K-5). There’s also Robert A. Millikan Middle School (public charter 6-8), Notre Dame High School (private 9-12) and a wide variety of elementary schools, public and private.

Sherman Oaks offers homes in the hills with amazing views of the valley, as well as a variety of house and lot sizes on the flats from south and north of the boulevard. Sherman Oaks is one of the most prestigious cities in the valley, and provides easy access to Los Angeles through canyons, Sepulveda Boulevard or the 405 Freeway.
