Studio City

Studio City is a fabulous 6.31-square-mile neighborhood located in the southeast San Fernando Valley. It is bordered on the north by Valley Village, on the south by Hollywood Hills West, on the east by Universal City/Toluca Lake and on the west by Sherman Oaks. In 1927, film producer/director Mack Sennett (“Keystone Kops”) started building a studio on a 20 acre parcel and the surrounding area was named Studio City. That studio is now known as CBS Studio Center, home to some great TV shows: “Brooklyn Nine-Nine”, “Will & Grace” and “American Housewife”, to name just a few!

Studio City’s “main drag” is Ventura Boulevard. There’s an eclectic array of vintage stores, juice joints, bars, restaurants and tucked-away gems in strip malls. For sushi lovers, the famed Katsuya is a must. What started as a “sushi joint” is now a global brand. There’s also Mexicali Cocina Cantina, Talesai for Thai, Barrel & Ashes for barbeque and for a romantic dinner, try Bistro Garden! When the sun goes down, Studio City offers some cozy bars like Firefly, A Simple Bar and Augustine Wine Bar. If you’re out and about on a Sunday, the Farmers Market is a great place to buy fresh produce or just wander around, enjoying snacks, French pastries and coffee.

If you’ve got kids, there are several good schools within the Studio City boundaries.
L.A. Unified School District offers Rio Vista Elementary (K-5) and Walter Reed Middle School (6-8) and for private schools, there is Bridges Academy (4-12), Campbell Hall (K-12), and Oakwood School (K-6). There’s also the highly rated Carpenter Community Charter School and the prestigious Harvard-Westlake High School.

Studio City is one of the most coveted cities in the San Fernando Valley. In addition to being the home of the CBS Studio Center, it is close to many other major film and television studios. There’s easy access to Hollywood and Los Angeles either via Laurel Canyon Blvd, Coldwater Canyon Avenue or the Hollywood (101) Freeway.

Studio City real estate prices range from about $400,000 for a small condo to about $6,500,000 for a large custom home. Studio City encompasses flat area as well as hillside, where stupendous views can be found. The homes found on the valley floor range in size and age and the lot size tends to be smaller than Encino.

There’s plenty of fun to be had here too! The hugely popular Universal City is just down the road, Fryman Canyon is a mecca for hikers and Woodbridge Park offers a children’s playground, picnic tables and much more. For nostalgia seekers, take a short drive over to the famed “Brady Bunch” house, where the exteriors were filmed for the popular television series! You’ll be in “stellar” company in Studio City, with the likes of George Clooney, Miley Cyrus, Vanessa Hudgens and Eddie Van Halen who have all called it home.
